NSLI-Y is a program funded by the Department of State with the goal of preparing American Citizens to be able to contribute and act as leaders in the Global Community that we all live in. They accomplish their goal by sending criteria meeting high school students to various countries overseas to learn less commonly taught languages.

These languages include:

  • Korean
  • Chinese (Mandarin)
  • Arabic
  • Russian
  • Persian (Tajiki)
  • Hindi
  • Turkish
  • Indonesian (Bahasa)

NSLI-Y offers summer and academic year programs for all languages. (Except Persian and Indonesian are only available for the summer duration.)

The scholarship covers the cost of plane tickets, housing, schooling, and even offers stipends to the students to cover the cost of transportation in the country. (The only cost that NSLI-Y does not cover is the cost associated with obtaining a passport)

I will be making informational posts about NSLI-Y as they become relevant. I will leave links below for the posts that I have written/ will write in the near future.
