About This Blog

Hello! I am a foreign student from America called Emma! (This was an example of me directly translating my go-to self-introduction sentence to English, and I have realized it does not sound as good as it does in Korean…)

I am currently on a Gap Year before university studying abroad in Seoul, South Korea through a government-funded scholarship program known as NSLI-Y (The same scholarship that took me there during the summer about three years ago.) I will be here for 9 months: studying Korean, attending my 5th year of high school, exploring Korea, making countless friendships, and unforgettable memories. I will be using this space to document these things–and I mean everything. While I am in Korea, I will be writing a daily diary of sorts every single day and although I will not be able to post at the same speed, I will be updating this blog with posts as my schedule allows.

I will return to America in late May 2019; however, I will probably be posting about this year for quite a bit after my departure date. I also will continue to use this as a space to share whatever I get up to during college (I will be attending Columbia University in NYC) as well as any other travels I find myself embarking on–Did anyone hear the words College Study Abroad?

I hope you enjoy my blog!

About This Blog Back in 2016:

Hello! My name is Emma and my favorite thing to do on the weekends is watch documentaries about other countries while simultaneously stressing about the school work I am avoiding. (And you think I am just trying to be funny.) But for your sake (and for the sake of me making somewhat of a good first impression) I am going to actually get this About Page started…

During the summer of 2016, for 7 weeks, I will be in Seoul, South Korea!!! I have this amazing opportunity only thanks to the government-funded program that goes by the name of ย Nsli-y. I am writing this blog because in the future I see myself as that mom, at every birthday party, that takes a million pictures and tells all the kids to “Smile!” In other words, I am the type of person that wants to remember everything! (Why else would I have scrapbook(s) at the age of 16…) So this blog will act as a space that I can access during my time in South Korea to document my travels. (And to reassure my mom back home that I am still breathing.)

After Korea, this blog won’t get up and disappear. (Like I wish AP Physics would…) I will continue to blog about other travels and (as my blog name suggests) endeavors. I hope you can enjoy living vicariously through my blog documenting my time in Korea! (As I know I have done with all the travel blogs I have read during the past 4 years) Happy Reading!!~

Hi Emma, I just stumbled across your blog!! It is very lovely and you seem like an adorable person haha. I’m excited to read up on all of your blog posts. I also just submitted my NSLI-Y application, although I have a question regarding teacher recommendations.
What are they looking for and what information should I provide my teacher with so they can write a letter accordingly? I also just read your blogs on StarTalk and it sounds like a lot of fun!! Perhaps I will check it out too. Lastly, thank you for sharing your stories with us. It’s very helpful and entertaining to read about ๐Ÿ˜€ โค
